<image:caption>With summer still in full swing, it’s hard to believe it’s that time of year again — next week, Colorado’s chain law goes into effect. Each year, from September 1 to May 31, the state of Colorado requires all trucks that are traveling on I-70 between Morrison and Edwards to carry chains. According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, “Commercial vehicles operation on I-70 in either direction between milepost 133 (Dotsero) and 259 (Morrison) from Sept. 1 to May 31 must carry sufficient chains at all times to be complaint with Colorado chain law. This is the only area in Colorado in which chains must be carried during the specific season.”</image:caption>

<image:caption>After a wildfire forced the weeks-long closure of I-70 through Glenwood Canyon, Colorado transportation officials have finally reopened the interstate — but there are restrictions. On Monday, August 24, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) announced the partial reopening of I-70 through Glenwood Canyon after the Grizzly Creek Fire. I-70 had previously been shut down between mile marker 116 and 140. According to CDOT, speed limits will be reduced on I-70 through Glenwood Canyon. Additionally, there is no stopping on I-70 and rest areas and exit ramps are closed due to rock fall and other possible hazards. Drivers should also be prepared for I-70 closures due to mudslides, repairs, and other events. CDOT encourages drivers who are using I-70 through Glenwood Canyon to pay close attention to weather reports as “even minimal amounts of rain could trigger mudslides, debris flows or rock slides in the burn area.” Drivers are also asked to be on the lookout for emergency vehicles. The two week Glenwood Canyon I-70 closure is thought to the longest in history.</image:caption>

<image:title>Toll collection begins in express lanes on Colorado highway - Toll collection begins in express lanes on Colorado highway — and it could get costly for truckers</image:title>
<image:caption>This week, tolling went into effect in the express lanes on a stretch of C-470 in Colorado. The tolling began on August 18 on the 12.5 miles of C-470’s express lanes located between Wadsworth Boulevard and I-25.The express lanes have been open since mid-June, but tolling has been waived as part of a testing phase. Drivers can still choose to use the general lanes for free or enjoy “a faster, more reliable travel time” in exchange for a toll. According to a toll fee schedule on the Colorado Department of Transportation website, truckers could wind up paying a lot more than they anticipated due to a $25 surcharge for vehicles with four or more axles per zone.</image:caption>
